Truth Will Win!
Jesus said, “…you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8.32).  We are praying that Congressman Boucher’s heart will be softened by the truth and that he will withdraw his sponsorship of FOCA and denounce abortion. 

There is evidence that the truth is winning.  Many Boucher supporters are shocked to find out that he is a co-sponsor of the Freedom of Choice Act.  And they are downright outraged to learn that he has a 100% pro-abortion voting record.  When the truth about FOCA gets out, truth wins! 

Consider the consequences if FOCA is passed:

1. All informed consent laws would be overturned.
2. All parental notification laws would be nullified.
3. All laws requiring a waiting period before abortion would be eliminated.
4. The Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act of 2003 would be reversed.
5. The Hyde Amendment, which restricts taxpayer funding of abortions, would be reversed.
6. Religiously affiliated hospitals would be forced to either perform abortions or stop providing healthcare services.
7. Military hospitals would be required to provide abortion procedures.
8. Health insurance for federal employees would have to cover abortions.
9. Doctors, nurses, and hospitals that conscientiously object to abortion would no longer be protected from lawsuits.

This movement is all about truth!  It is a truth marathon not a sprint - so be patient and be ready to persevere!  If necessary, we must be willing stay in for the long haul.

Information Meetings
We have several meetings coming up across the district.  At the this time the dates and times are still to be announced.  We have meetings coming up in Haysi, Abingdon, and Pulaski.  Can you host an information meeting?

Support Life – Q & A
Q - What does it mean to support life?
A - To support life is to foster respect and care for human life at all points.

Q - Why should we support life?
A - We should support life because we are copies of the most High God.  Mankind is the only creature on earth that has a counterpart in heaven (Genesis 1.26).  We should support life because of the inherent value in a single human life.  Individuals and individual behavior may not be deserving of respect.  However, “human life” deserves respect on the most basic level because of the nature of humanity.  It doesn’t matter if that human is considered to be too young or too old.  We need to support life.  It doesn’t matter if the individual is slightly handicapped or completely dependent on others.  Human life is sacred. 

Q - Is there really a need to fervently support life?
A – Yes!  Consider some of the following quotes:

Peter Singer – “We can no longer base our ethics on the idea that human beings are a special form of creation, made in the image of God,” states Singer, “singled out from all the other animals, and alone possessing an immortal soul.  We should recognize,” argued Singer, “that in some cases the life of a dog or a pig could be more morally significant than that of the defective infant, because the dog or the pig might possess superior powers of rationality and self-consciousness.  Mere membership in the species Homo Sapiens is not necessarily morally significant.”  (Evangelical Ethics p. 159—160).

Joseph Fletcher – Fletcher identifies person-hood with a minimum degree of human consciousness and intelligence – Roughly  a minimum score of 20 on the Binet I.Q. scale.  “Obviously,” he notes, “a fetus cannot meet this test, no matter what its stage of growth.”  In short, the basic ethical principle for Fletcher is that “pregnancy when wanted is a healthy process, pregnancy when not wanted is a disease – in fact, a venereal disease.  The truly ethical question is not whether we can justify abortion but whether we can justify compulsory pregnancy.”  (Evangelical Ethics p. 145).

Q – Is it necessary to stand?  Can’t we just let others believe what they want and avoid all controversy?
A – No!  There are times when silence can be sinful. 

Silence is sinful when we allow people to believe a lie.  In Ezekiel 13.22  we find that lies have subverted the will of God.  The text states, "Because with lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and you have strengthened the hands of the wicked, so that he does not turn from his wicked way to save his life.”

We cannot be silent while people are promoting lies.

Silence is sinful when people are being hurt. Proverbs 24.11—12 states, “Deliver those who are drawn toward death, and hold back those stumbling to the slaughter.  12If you say, ‘Surely we did not know this,’ Does not He who weighs the hearts consider it? He who keeps your soul, does He not know it? And will He not render to each man according to his deeds?”

We need to support life!  In this land, human life at all levels is being devalued.  Since January 22, 1973 over forty-nine million unborn children have had their lives terminated.  We have a sacred duty to support what God supports and hate what God hates.  God supports life (Genesis 1.26 and 9.1-6) and God hates hands that shed innocent blood (Proverbs 6.16).

Let us commit ourselves to support life.
