Fighting for Life in the 9th!
New Group is Fighting for Life in the 9th
Fighting for Life in the 9th is a local prolife, grassroots organization that has recently begun. The group's primary concern is the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA), a pro-abortion bill in the U.S. House and Senate. Bill Haywood, chairman of the organization, said, "The group's aim is twofold: First, to educate the citizens of the ninth congressional district about the Freedom of Choice Act. Second, it is our aim to passionately ask Congressman Boucher to oppose this bill."
Fighting for Life in the 9th points out that Congressman Boucher is a co-sponsor of this bill (HR 1964) and has a one-hundred percent pro-abortion voting record. The organization also points out that President-Elect Obama has stated: "The first thing I'd do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act."
Haywood stated, "This is a terrible piece of legislation. If this bill were enacted, the barbaric practice of partial birth abortion would be permissible up to the ninth month of pregnancy. Furthermore, an additional host of horrible consequences would follow."
Victoria Cobb, President of the Family Foundation of Virginia said, "Without the strong voice of reasonable Americans, I am concerned that the Freedom of Choice Act will become the law of the land. If it becomes law, FOCA will overturn forty years of legal precedent; undermine a state's right to monitor the health and safety of its citizens; and harm, not just the unborn, but women who are forced to make difficult decisions in trying circumstances."
Cobb continued, "Unknown to many is that this extreme over-reach will not only repeal laws, but it will also give a woman the right to sue the state if she believes a state law created to monitor the abortion procedure impedes her new unrestricted access to abortion at all stages in all situations."
Haywood said: "The Freedom of Choice Act is really The Unbridled Abortion Act, and it does not reflect the values of the people of the ninth congressional district of Virginia."
Haywood explained that, "The organization began when a group of Church of Christ preachers met to discuss the pending legislation. We decided that we needed to educate the constituents of the ninth district about this legislation." Since then, preachers and individuals from all across district have joined the fight. Dennis Curd from Christiansburg, Virginia came up with the name, "Fighting for Life in the 9th." Haywood continued, "Congressman Boucher has said for years that he is 'fighting for the 9th.' Now it is time for him to fight for our values and fight for life!" Paul Bufford from Abingdon Bible Church made the point that: "We are not only fighting in the ninth district, but we are also fighting in the ninth inning. Time may be running out."
